Choco-cherry Bars

  • 4 squares BAKER'S Unsweetened Baking Chocolate, Divided
  • 1 package (8 ounces) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, Softened
  • 3/4 cup (1-1/2 sticks) Butter Or Margarine, Softened
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Vanilla, Divided
  • 1-1/4 cups Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Chopped Maraschino Cherries, Well Drained
  • 1/2 cup Chopped PLANTERS Walnuts
  • 1 cup Sifted Powdered Sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons Milk, Divided
  • PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 15x10x1-inch baking pan; set aside. Melt 2 squares of the chocolate as directed on pkg.; set aside. Beat cream cheese, butter and granulated sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add eggs and 1 tsp. of the vanilla; mix well. Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Add to cream cheese mixture; mix well. Blend in melted chocolate. Stir in cherries and walnuts. SPREAD batter into prepared pan. BAKE 25 to 30 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Melt remaining 2 chocolate squares in medium microwaveable bowl as directed on pkg. Add powdered sugar, 2 Tbsp. of the milk and the remaining 1/2 tsp. vanilla; stir until well blended. Add remaining 1 Tbsp. milk, if necessary, for desired glaze consistency. Drizzle over warm dessert. Cut into 36 bars to serve.


    How to Soften Cream Cheese

    Place completely unwrapped package of cream cheese on microwaveable plate. Microwave on HIGH 10 to 15 sec. or until slightly softened.
